If your website looks fine but is not bringing in the leads it should, the problem is rarely the design on the surface. It is usually one of a handful of fixable issues that quietly push visitors away before they ever reach out.

1. Your load time is working against you

Every extra second of load time gives a visitor another reason to hit the back button, especially on mobile. If your homepage takes more than three seconds to become usable, you are very likely losing people before they read a single word of your copy.

2. There is no clear next step above the fold

A visitor should know what you do and what to do next within about five seconds of landing on your homepage. If your hero section is all mission-statement language and no visible call to action, you are asking people to work harder than they will.

3. It does not work properly on a phone

More than half of most small business traffic is mobile. A site that only really works on desktop is not a minor inconvenience anymore, it is turning away the majority of your visitors.

4. The design signals ‘we have not updated this in years’

Fairly or not, people use your website as a proxy for how seriously you run your business. Outdated fonts, stretched images, and cluttered layouts erode trust before a visitor reads your first sentence.

5. You are guessing instead of measuring

If you cannot say which pages people leave from or which calls to action actually get clicked, you are optimizing blind. Basic analytics and heatmaps turn ‘I think our site is fine’ into an actual answer.

None of these are difficult to fix once you know they are the problem, which is usually the hard part.
